A Day at the Woodland Park Zoo
Located in Seattle, the Woodland Park Zoo has been serving the community and providing a home for animals for more than one hundred years. It sits on 92-acres of land and currently cares for more than 1000 animals representing 300 different species. The zoo is divided into different sections, called bioclimatic zones, such as rains forests and woodlands of the north. Whatever your favorite type of animal is, you are likely to find it at the Woodland Park Zoo, a progressive institution that takes great care in the conservancy of animals around the world.
Mammals
If you have an affinity for any particular mammal, there is a good chance that you will see it, or at least one of its close relatives, at the zoo. You can see some “classic zoo animals” such as the African elephant, African lion, brown bear, and monkey, as well as some of the more rare creatures that inhabit our planet like the endangered wolf and the vampire bat.
Birds
You are going to see more than just parakeets and canaries in the aviaries at the Woodland Park Zoo. Check out the variety of parrots and different types of owls, as well as the bald eagle, the symbol of the United States.
Reptiles
Love them or loathe them, reptiles are often one of the biggest draws at any zoo. The Woodland Park Zoo certainly doesn’t disappoint. Among the inhabitants of the zoo are the Komodo dragon, the boa constrictor, rattlesnakes, skinks, and the beautiful but deadly anaconda.
Creepy Crawlies
While creepy crawlies is not the technical term for invertebrates, it is somewhat fitting. Among these creatures that the zoo has on display are tarantulas, earwigs, cockroaches, butterflies, and an assortment of spiders. While they are interesting to see and learn about, many still find them to be both creepy and crawly!
The zoo gift shop offers great items from around the world, including handcrafted items made by people in places such as Brazil and Nepal. There are also a variety of other souvenirs available as well, such as key chains, stuffed animals, and sticker books. You are certain to find something to help commemorate your trip.
Everyone can have a good time at a zoo, and the more than one million visitors to the Woodland Park Zoo are testament to this.
